Installing Winamp

Winamp has a few problems with Vista at the moment and if you install with the normal options then when start you will get an error message.

This is due to the Sonic CD Burning/Ripping part of winamp. So when installing make sure to disable this part from the installable options and it will solve the problem

Re: Installing Winamp

New to the forum so wasn't sure quite where to go with this one. i had no problem whatsoever installing or running winamp in vista x64. My problem is that one of my most used things in winamp, where you're in win explorer and right click a tune or group of tunes and click on ENQUE IN WINAMP. That option just isn't there for me in Vista. Any ideas anyone? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Installing Winamp

The new Winamp 5.5 is finally Vista compatible, including x64. The only problem that still remains is that the taskbar preview is still the old 2.x interface. The CD ripping and track time bugs have been fixed.

Re: Installing Winamp

Okay, I here's my question:

How does one properly install Winamp (in my case v5.541) on Vista for a non-privildedge user account?

Currently, my Vista Home Premium x64 non-priviledged user gets a UAC dialog box everytime Winamp starts.

Any ideas?

the only fix I have found for this is to run winamp in compatibility mode. using win XP SP2 as the selection from the menu

Thanks!! That worked.

Okay, that fixed the "error", but I wonder why it occured in the first place. Was Winamp asking to do something "important" that it will now not do in "WinXP SP2 Compatiblity" mode?

Your welcome & happy holidays/Merry Christmas to you.

my guess is that you are not losing any functionality but that winamp needs to be re written to work better with Vista and the new security settings.

I wish all apps worked in Windows when it comes to permission's like they do in the nix world but unfortunately that is not the case yet
