Flash player help

Hi guys,

I installed windows Vista on my computer a few weeks ago and have had nothing but trouble! most sites i go on inc all game sites wont load they say i need a flash player...so i i have tried about 100 times to install using all different links but each time i get a messege which reads....
Flash Player support on 64-bit operating systems

Issue

Flash Player is not supported for playback in a 64-bit browser.
However, you can run Flash Player in a 32-bit browser running on a 64-bit operating system.
Reason

Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We have not yet announced timing or release dates...........................

this is very frustrating as i just can't use the internet hardly at all!!! Do i realy have to wait for the new flash player or is their a way around this?

Any advise would be well appreciated.

Many Thanks
Donna

Donna,

You have both versions of Internet Explorer installed if you are indeed using the 64bit version of the OS.

The easiest way to see which one is running is to open the Task Manager and look for iexplorer in the processes, after its running of course. The 32 bit version will have *32 after it stating its 32 bit. 64 bit will be plain.

Find the 32 bit version and run it in lieu of the 64bit version. Go to the adobe page and see if the plug in is installed. Note the rotating flash picture may rotate and state that version 9 has been installed but if you go else where such as this page

Speedtest.net - The Global Broadband Speed Test

and find most of the middle of the page missing it has installed incorrectly.
Go back to adobe and find the application that removes Flash. Yes they do have one. Restart your system once removed (to be safe) and then go back to Adobe and reinstall it (hopefully this time correctly). Ensure you are using the 32bit version of IE. Go back to the speed test site to confirm correct installation.

Hope this helps. Yep - been there done that

Hi mattanddonna,

Rapierau is correct. Vista 64 comes with two IE7's 32 & 64 bit. 32 bit is usually running by default, so you'll need to change it back to default Browser instead of 64 bit version or just use the 32 version when you want to view any Flash media. Create a shortcut for each and/or reset the default.

Locations of IE7's:

32-bit -- C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
64-bit -- C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

Another way to tell which version you're using is this from within IE7 :
1. click on Help menu
2. click on About Internet Explorer
Under Version if it has a 64-bit at end then (well you know)
If not, it's 32-bit

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Re: Flash player help

Hi Feejeenson,

If the OEM is a 64 bit Vista version, then you will have both versions of IE7. Otherwise, you will just have the 32 bit version of IE7 with a 32 bit Vista version. All copies of Vista are the same on this.
