    ??XLS File (.xls) cant open in vista 32 bit?

    hi can anyone point me in the right direction plz, i have the above file a word document ,and i need to b able to use it on vista..but it just comes up as codded goblede gookkkkkkkk.....it trys to open in microsoft works but it wont.and when it is there it looks like it is cryptic lol.please can someone ,give me a link ware i can download something so that my pc can open and veiw these sort of files thxs
