Is there any way to restore file associations to the Vista defaults? I installed Adobe Creative Suite 3 (Web Premium) and many of my associations have changed to Adobe programs (why the hell would I open .bmp's with Photoshop). I am having trouble finding a how-to or a utility that would restore these associations to their default settings. Any help?

You can do it manualy.
Find the file you want to change. Right-click the file, and then, depending on the type of file, either click Open With or point to Open With, and then click Choose Default Program.
Click the program that you want to use to open this type of file.
Select the Always use the selected program to open this kind of file check box, and then click OK.
When you double-click that type of file in the future, the file will always open in the program you selected.

Not so for image files, they have multiple right click thingies "Preview", "Edit", "Print", and the application for many of these (in this instance Preview and Print) is hidden in some obscure Windows sub-directory or dll.

2. click on Default Programs icon
3. click on "Set your default programs"
4. click on the program that you want to open the files (.bmp, etc)

One more thing, does anyone know how to reassociate the .html and .htm "Edit" right click commands with Notepad? Office 2007 assigned it to Word.

Hi hex1,
You can rename the file extension from .html or .htm to ".txt" (no quotes). It would then open into the program you have .txt assigned to. The default is Notepad. If the .txt was reassigned to Office, then you can go to this link to see how to change a file type's program association.

I forgot about this:
While you have the .html or .htm file open in the default IE7 browser, you can click File > Edit with Notepad. You make you edits and save it back as the .html or .htm file type.

I use Firefox but I might reassign html files to open in MSIE so it makes for easier editing. I can't believe the file extension editor in vista, compared to XP (or 95 for that matter) it's a shocking leap backwards.
