Vista 64 Adobe CS3 problems

Silly me bought CS3 not realising that Adobe was not supporting Vista 64. Have managed to get Photoshop, Dreamweaver, InDesign and Flash working fine. I downloaded the 8.1 Acrobat update today and 'I think' it's working okay but only time will tell.

However, I cannot get Illustrator to install. I've spoken with Adobe about this and they directed me to the kb401401 article and I found out that I was getting the 1401 error. I tried this fix even though it's for XP and it didn't work. Adobe tech support say there's nothing more they can do!! Woe

Does anybody there have any ideas how I might be able to get Illustrator to run? I would be eternally grateful (and more)!!!

Here's hoping!

Yes Z3r010, I actually bought it! And no, haven't tried running the autosetup as admin as most of the programs worked - just not illustrator. The adobe kb got me to assign full rights to .svg and .svgz programs but that didn't work. Do you think that running as admin would work over and above this.

And no, don't know about Xp SP2 compatiblity mode (sssshhhh) can you point me in the right direction.

Highlander! What a statement - specially after my unfortunate discussion with Adobe tech support today!

For Xp SP2 compatiblity mode right click on the setup file -> Properties -> compatibility tab

Same sort of thing to run as admin right click on the setup file -> run as admin

BTW do you have UAC on or off?

Well tried 3 things: turned UAC off and ran as admin no luck. Also with UAC off ran in XP SP2 compatibility mode - no luck.

I'm at a loss - some people are running all these programs just fine under Vista 64!

Code:
did the following...

used the microsoft utility to remove stray files
ran the adobe cs3 cleanup script several times
turned on UAC
copied the CS3 folder to my computer

installed through setup.exe as an admin

Ok, I was able to install fine, but the activation prompt never appears... weird???

I even went as far as to return my laptop and exchange it for a new one.

Issue are:

- CS3 does not activate nor does it give me the option to.
- All apps in CS3 suite launch but crash when trying to exit them, they just hang and nothing happens...

Any ideas???
