Headphones not working

it seems that a lot of people have been having problems very similar to mine, but a bit more complicated... i also don't consider myself a computer whiz...

my headphones simply do not work when i plug them in... into the correct jack, with the volume up... i will be listening to something, plug them in, i wont be able to hear a thing, and ill unplug them, and everything is good... except that my roommate gets mad at me...

ive tried going into the control panel and such... please help... and try to make it simple...

Re: Headphones not working

Hi Hanginaround247,
If you right click on your little speaker icon at the bottom right corner and choose "Playback devices" you should get a window pop up that looks like the picture below. Look in there and make sure the microphone is turned up.
Click the image to open in full size.
Also are you pluggin your headphones in the green color jack in the front of the PC or back of the PC? I'm not sure if the jack on the cd/dvd drive will work like that or not.
