CM6501 Sound is way quiet

I have Vista 64bit and sound from the onboard audio, Chip C Media CM6501, is not working. If I plug in USB headphones, sound is fine, but if I plug speakers into the speaker jack on the back, or front, or back with the front disconnected, and I turn volume full blast I can barely hear it. As in I have to put ear on the speaker.

I've tried many many drivers, just wondering if anyone knew of a fix.

MB is ASUS M2N-E SLI

They are powered speakers, I've tried 2 different sets of speakers, and the speakers work on my other computer.

Hi recon! Welcome to the forum! :)
On the bottom right corner of the taskbar, by the time/date, you should see a speaker icon. If you right click on that icon there are a couple of options. Have you looked in there? I'm thinking maybe your master volume is up high but the WAVE volume is low. Look for these settings. I'm not on my Vista machine to guide you through at the moment but wanted to give you a starting point.

I've looked there, had everything up, if there was a volume slider on my machine it was on full.

From what I've read on C Media forums and elsewhere others say that because its a USB audio chip (I dont understand hardware fully so USB Audio that is fully integrated into the MB, watevs), if you have usb peripherals (sp?) then it won't work. I don't have a non usb keyboard/mouse so I can't check that.

I mainly use headphones anyways, but it would be nice if I wanted to show someone else a video or if I wanted to game while watching TV and be able to listen to both.
