Missing relative volume bar

For no reason, when I adjust the volume bar the meter that shows the relative level of the volume no longer appears. I did not intentionally turn it off and would like it back on. How do I get the relative volume meter to reappear?

Thank You

I now have this problem too. The volume level will adjust fine, it's just that the Green and Gray bars no longer appear? Does anyone have any ideas on how to get them back...?

-Thanks

*Update*

I created another User account, and the volume control bars are working fine in it. So it looks like the issue isn't system wide......

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi to you both,

Right click on the notification area, select properties, Put a tick in the loudspeaker box, and click on save.

I hope this helps

When I right-click and go to Properties, I don't see a "loudspeaker" box. I see Icons and System Icons ("Volume" is a box there). That just toggles the main volume icon in the system tray, not the green and gray bars?

-Thanks

Yes Thats right it has just gotten badly translated :) (my system is in German)

Then tell me more about these Grey Green bars because I only have the normal volume control better still give me a list with your Motherboard and Sound device details

In Vista, you have the standard Speaker icon. It will show 0-3 green "waves" on the right side, depending on the volume level. It will also have a red "no" symbol on it when the volume is muted. That speaker icon is working fine, and it has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

The problem is... when you left-click on the speaker icon, the volume "panel" will appear. It has the volume control "slider" on it. When you manually adjust the "slider", it will do 2 things. First, it will give a "ding" to show you the current audio level you just set. And second, it will "flash" 2 bars. A 'green' bar and a 'gray' bar. The bars show you the current audio level and the audio limit. These bars are now missing, and no longer appear. I have reinstalled my sound drivers several times. I have updated to SP2 (to see if it would "fix" the problem). I have checked for policies in the registry. Nothing seems to work. As I stated above, I created a new user account on this computer (just as a test) and the volume bars work fine. So it is something that got "disabled/turned off" with my main user account. I have been trying to find a solution to this problem for months. I have searched everywhere and can't find any info about it...

NOTE - I have tried 3 different sound drivers and I have tried removing all sound devices. The problem seems to be with "Windows" and not the sound drivers/devices.

-Thanks

I get the sound effects. When I adjust the volume I get a scale on the left 0-100 the only other thing is a vertical green grey level bar that shows when (for example) music is playing I presume this is what you mean.

If it is missing by you I really don't know how to get it back sorry

To be honest though I wouldn't miss it either so what is so important about it??
