Too silent output into SPDIF on Realtek

I have Realtek high definition audio onboard with one coaxial and one optical digital out. I have the newest driver.

I need to connect PC with Panasonic AV Receiver via digital connection. When I use coaxial connection, sound works fine BUT sound is too silent!

I have Sony DVD player with coaxial digital output too. If I use subjective for example 1-10 "scale", build-in RDS tuner (in AV receiver) has subjective volume 10, sound from CD inserted in DVD player has the same subjective volume 10 and sound from PC connected via coaxial digi has subjective volume 5.

Only volume control i have in Windows is set to max!!

Please help me where is problem? Why is digital output on my Realtek in Vista so silent?

I think when I use same CD in PC and in DVD player as described above, i have to receive sound with same volume from DVD player and from PC! But this is unluckily not true.

Re: Too silent output into SPDIF on Realtek

You need to change the volume level of the SPDIF interface. To do this, right click the speaker icon in the system tray. Select 'Playback Devices' and then select 'Realtek digital Output'. Click 'Properties'. On the 'Levels' tab, you should be able to adjust the volume and balance. Also, check the 'Supported Formats' tab. Click 'OK' to return to the main 'PlaybackDevices' dialogue. Finally, do not forget that in order to use this interface as an output device, it needs to be selected. Make sure that this device is highlighted and then click 'Set Default'. Close the dialogue box. Note that your analogue speakers will now be silent, and that all audio output will be channelled through the SPDIF interface.

But there is that problem! I have no volume slider here! Look at the pic.

How can I solve this problem? I have last version of driver.

A most unusual problem. However, in order to be able to assist you, I need a bit more information. What is the make and model of your motherboard? Although Realtek are commonly used as audio interfaces on motherboards, they are by no means the only manufacturer. High definition and AC'97 are the two common types of audio for motherboards and whilst in some cases drivers from a different manufacturer will work they will not be able to fully access the device like the manufacturer's driver.

I have this MB:

GIGABYTE - Support - Motherboard - Driver - GA-965P-DS4 (rev. 1.0)

I is very strange, because some web sites have notice about Intel audio and some about Realtek audio. There are both:

Gigabyte GA-965P-DS4 Rev 2.0 (Intel P965) :: Articles :: www.hardwarezone.com®

Now i don't know which sound chipset is active, i think Realtek.

Re: Too silent output into SPDIF on Realtek

There are actually 3 versions of your motherboard, viz 1.0, 2.0 and 3.3. In each case, the audio solution is provided by Realtek. You say that you have got the latest driver installed. Did you obtain it directly from Realtek or from Gigabyte? The version from Gigabyte is an old version, R1.87 whereas the version from Realtek themselves is R1.90 and is dated 2008/3/31. I provide a link to the appropriate Realtek webpage for your convenience. Please note that you may need to fully uninstall an older driver before installing a newer version and that sometimes it is necessary to install it twice in succession.

Yes, i have tried both these drivers. But i think there is no difference for me. Both drivers have no volume slider in digital output settings.

Re: Too silent output into SPDIF on Realtek

A strange situation indeed. I have the volume slider available in my digital output settings, but I have Realtek AC'97 audio as opposed to the HD audio which you have. It could be an issue that needs addressing by Realtek themselves, in which case I suggest that you email them to see what they say. You can find the various email addresses on the following page (the one you require is under the heading 'Computer Peripheral Products').
