Location: Southern California | No sound after SP1, replaced audio card Audio ran fine before SP1. Here's the system: Asus Formula Maximus Intel Q6600 8GB RAM Onboard sound (SupremeFXII)--don't know chipset Post-SP1 uninstalled audio driver and installed Creative SB X-FI Xtreme Audio Had Vista64 running just fine with audio. Installed SP1 and now the volume mixer shows "No audio device is installed". Device manager shows the onboard audio card working just fine. At Microsoft's suggestion, removed/uninstalled the onbard audio (including turning off in BIOS), rebooted and then installed a new card, Creative SB X-FI Xtreme Audio (it's PCI-e). The Device manager shows the driver and device working fine. The volume mixer shows "No audio device is installed". I've attempted a system rollback, but the SP1 install is no longer available. Short of reinstalling Vista, any ideas? I've looked at several other threads (and elsewhere on the internet), but most of them really don't offer much beyond "reinstall the driver". Been there... done that. Thanks much in advance. t |

Location: Southern California | Re: No sound after SP1, replaced audio card After much research and fruitless driver replacement, I decided to bite the bullet and reinstall Vista. A day and a half later, I'm back and running. I've learned my lesson: make sure all your drivers are up to date and running properly before applying SP1. Good luck to anyone else in this situation. t |
