DRM copyright restrictions prevent recording directly from soundcards not supporting DRM copy protections under Vista.

Microsoft was forced to remove the ability to record the sound internally because of US laws, There are other programs that can do this for you (might be illegal in your country) or use the Mic to record the sound.

dont think its illegal here. what programs would you suggest?

Hello again,

It depends on the type of audio your trying to capture..CD,DVD, Streaming or another program producing the sound?

My Computer

Hello, I'm having the same problem as the OP.

I'm looking to broadcast audio from my card directly to another program (like Skype) to play audio for a friend back home.

I tried Virtual Audio Cable, but it didn't work very well. I'm using a Creative SB X-Fi XtremeGamer card.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey killimus,

Its just not possible for the software to capture audio internally by Vista due to the new USA-DRM laws unless you use a Microphone...

What type of Audio are you trying to broadcast because there are options?

I have various .mp3 files taken off of some of the recording equipment I use, and I'd like to broadcast them over things like Ventrilo or Skype. Mainly just saved audio files.

I've been doing research on this, and it looks like alot of SB Audigy cards have the "What you hear" feature available, but hidden on Vista, however my card has neither. If there isn't any software alternatives to this, I could buy an external sound card that has this feature (since it seems Realtek cards are working ok on Vista).

Hey Killimus,

Instead of broadcasting sound over Ventrillo or Skype without a Microphone look into Streaming programs like Winamp or SAM2 for creating your own audio streams instead of using a propriety chat program or sound software...
