Driver problems? Yes/No?

Sound card: X-Fi Xtremegamer - Well a while back I did not want to go to Vista, but decided to try it out. Liked it for how it worked, except I had a lot of problems with my sound card. At random times, I can't say what caused it because I'm not sure if it was anything I did, my speakers would make this loud irritating noise like something was ripping(kind of like a ton of paper for about 2 seconds) and then just die. The only way I got sound back was to restart my computer. I got fed up with this so I reformatted back to XP Pro. In XP I had absolutely no problems.

So I upgraded my computer a bit and had to get a new hard-drive, so I decided, you know what? I'll put Vista back on as a x64 this time. Same thing in it's own sense. Right now the only time is has definitely happened was when I was playing a game, but I think it's the sound card because right when a friend talked on Ventrilo, my system froze on me and the only way to get out, restart manually. I JUST tried to download the latest driver to see if it works so it's installing as I type this message. So hopefully it will help. Last time though, it did not.

Current Computer

Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz
nVidia 8800 GTX 756MB

Any help is greatly appriciated. Thanks.

Re: Driver problems? Yes/No?

See my post here: How I solved my X-FI driver problem

I've had the same problem asyou before, so hopefully this will put you on the right track. If you have any questions about how to do those things, let me know.

Re: Driver problems? Yes/No?

Alright well from what I understand in that, all you did is change the PCI latency to 96? How did you do this?

By the way. I moved down to the 32-bit version of vista last night because I could not get drivers for my on board sound card. Right now, I haven't had a problem like that, and it says that all my speakers work(clicking test all sounds come out correctly except I can't hear anything from my center speaker) except also that music, if I play any, only comes out of the front right speaker and I THINK the center(can't tell to be sure). I have not tried to install the drivers for the X-Fi in fear that it would screw something up with what I got, even though what I have now isn't perfect.

If anyone has any ideas on this, shoot.

Re: Driver problems? Yes/No?

You'll have to adjust it in your BIOS. Getting into those settings varies by motherboard.

I will take a look then. It's an Asus P5K Deluxe so I will take a look at it when I get the chance. Hopefully it does fix the problem. I will also install the drivers and see if it helps at all doing that. I'll post back.

So heres something for you. So far in the 32bit version everything is running alright. I found out today though that when I started up my computer, my mouse didn't work. I installed the drivers, and litterly after I installed the drivers(Lachesis mouse from razerzone.com) I had to restart obviously, and right when I restarted my speakers started to make that static sound and wouldn't stop. They finally stopped and left me without any sound at all. I updated my sound drivers from 2.13 to 2.15 and so far I have sound and everything is working. If anyone has any information on this, be glad to add.

Thanks.
