| Vista Ultimate 32 | PLZ HELP ME FIND: External USB Voice Modem Compatible with Vista Hi All, I was wondering if anyone could help me find an external (USB) voice modem that would be compatible with Vista. There should be mic in, spkr out jacks on the modem for it to be a true voice modem. I would like to use my computer as a telephone. I want to be able to plug the telephone landline into the external modem, and use programs (such as MS Outlook) to make telephone calls from my computer. Can anyone provide insight? Thank you!!! |

| Vista Ultimate 32 | Re: PLZ HELP ME FIND: External USB Voice Modem Compatible with Vista johngalt, I appreciate your time in that. But unfortunately, I've looked at all of these, and none of them are exactly what I'm looking for. I've actually even bought that Hiro modem. None of them have mic in, spkr out ports. Some modems will claim to be "voice modems" that will relay voice through the sound card of the computer, but this creates garbled sounds as well as seconds of delay. - UAV-PHD |

| Vista Ultimate x64 MAK, OpenSolaris 5, Gentoo 2008.1.... | Re: PLZ HELP ME FIND: External USB Voice Modem Compatible with Vista Understandable - I am not sure if you're going to find such a rascal, but I'd check out 3COM - I have always been their biggest fan when it comes to modems (well, their US Robotics line anyway, since they bought the company) as well as their NICs.... Also, have you read around about IRQs and how forcing hardware to use different IRQs may change the way they perform? ISTR that with Voice modems you *really* had to play around with some of the internal hardware settings to make a Voice modem transmit voice over the telco lines when the sound was being passed to it from the computer sound card - but I don't remember if it was the modem itself that needed to be played with (in terms of settings, such as device settings and / or modem initialization strings) or if it was the sound card that needed adjusting... |
