IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

Hi - please could someone help. IE 7 and Firefox both crash when I go to a specific site to view streamed content. I think the problem relates to WMP, It gets to obtaining license then crashes. I have tried about everything Mirosoft hot fixes ect. I have enabled the plug-ing that obtains said license. I Have googled and tried all suggestions. My Desktop PC runs Vista 64 Home Premium SP1. My laptop which runs IE7 with Vista 32 Home Basic works fine. The site where I'm crashing is LUTV . If any one has any ideas I would be gratfull - please keep it simple though. Thanks David (Lufcboy).

Hi lufcboy,

Welcome to the Forums.

Do you have Service Pack 1 for Vista installed?

Lufcboy - run the following in a CMD window:

Code:
SFC /SCANNOW
and if it says anything about errors found, find the file that it refers you to and check the size and report back before trying to upload it - those files can get large extremely quickly.

Re: IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

Hi John and Raj thanks for answering : Raj I am running SP1.

John I have run SFC /SCANNOW. The file that it refers to is about 3.5 meg however I can zip it to about 300k. When I had a quick look I could see that it referred to a DLL that it could not repair "msnetobj.dll" and I think this is the DLL that the RMgetlicense class add-on uses. Is this my problem?? Thanks David

Bingo - try resetting IE 7 to default values, then reboot and run SFC /SCANNOW again and see if still has that issue.

If you want to chop down your log file, rename the old log to something else (*.old works, where * is the filename) before running SFC so that the new log will only contain the data from the current SFC scan.

Re: IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

Hi John - I have done what you said (I had reset IE before but not in tandem with SFC scan.) The file in question is corrupt and still can't be repaired. I have downloaded a fresh copy of the file (msnetobj.dll) and have tried to overwrite it to the locations on my computer where it exists - however I have come up against a permissions problem and can't overwrite the files. I have tried a Vista repair install but this is telling me that all is OK. Do you have any other suggestions?. Thanks again for your reply and time, all the best David.

Re: IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

the problem with downloading the file off the net is that you may hose your system - are you sure that came from a Vista Home Premium ***x64*** ?

Are you sure the file is legitimate? Not a virus?

I honestly recommend that you do not do that again.

Try the steps outlined in Windows Media Player 11 cannot play DRM-protected content on Windows Vista and see if it helps.

Now, as to the file not being repaired and being corrupted:

Re: IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

Hello John, again thanks for your help and suggestions have followed all the steps but to no avail. I think a fresh install of Vista may be in order but I'll wait a while for that. By that time WMP12 will be probably be available. All the best David

Re: IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

I apparently had more to post in that post but I left it off - and now I have no idea what I was going to post lol....

My apologies.

But, there has to be some way to figure this out - unless an acquired license simply corrupted your license files, or else you downloaded a program to allow DRM free music....

Re: IE7 & Firefox Crashes Trying to obtain DRM License

Hello John, I did have Tunebite installed and removed it - rebooted and run SFC again. Sadly the problem still exists. I think the other bit you wanted to post was about the corrupt file. This is a problem that will nag at me for a while but it's not the end of the world as I can use my laptop to watch the Vids on the site. Thanks David
