Re: Headset and install problem

Are you running as a standard user? Is UAC enabled or disabled? Have you taken ownership of any files or folders? Have you tweaked your system by disabling / setting to manual start any services?

UAC is disabled
I took ownership of wdf01000.sys to fix another issue
I have not disabled any services.

Re: Headset and install problem

Try running the following form CMD prompt to let it fix your system files

Code:
SFC /SCANNOW
Actually, first and foremost I'd return ownership of that file to whatever it was before - that is a hidden and critical system file that should *not* be messed with.

I do not know how to return it.
I did not take it on a whim, it was advice from the Logitech techs.

Re: Headset and install problem

See if the SFC will return it for you (I think it will).

Re: Headset and install problem

Honestly, if it fond files that it cannot fix, and you looked at the CBS log, it sounds like you installation has become corrupted and will need a complete format and reinstall. However, since most of your system is working OK, I'd go ahead and start backing up files and settings (make sure you realize that settings and files are located in different areas - so backing up, say, just the green special folders in you user folder is not going to get all your settings - you'll need to either show all hidden files and folders to see the AppData folder(s) and back them up, or at the very least make a manual copy of the folder and subfolders to another place that will not be affected by the format.

I personally have a dual HD setup where all my special folders (green ones) are located on a separate physical drive - making formatting and reinstalling that much easier.

Re: Headset and install problem

Thats terrible news
I did not install the system this time around as I couldn't figure out the grub to get a dual boot and except for this one thing the system is running so very sweetly.

I would simply replace the headset (as I want to do anyway) but now I am not sure it will help.
