Vista - itunes 8 problems

I'm new to this forum, but extremely happy i found it, cuz i've occurred quite a few problems recently with my vista..one being most recently i few days ago i updated to itunes 8(i should have ignored the update like u isually do) cuz then well it worked ok for the first day, but then i guess after exiting it and getting on it later, it made my harddrive make this clikcing noise, then it eventually freezes..So I uninstalled it(well i transferred my music to 500 gig discgrive of my brothers) and yeah should i get an earlier version of itunes like itunes 7. sumthin and also, now i noticed when i went to windows media player, i was tryint to rip a cd and it said i must ahve a disc drive AHHH i dunno whats wrong!
