Headset problems (help please)

I recently got a computer from a friend. I updated some of the parts and wiped the hard drive for a clean install. Now I had installed XP on it first and upgraded to Vista ultimate not too long ago. As afar as I know I reinstalled all the necessary updated drivers for the OS.

Now here is the problem. I get sound fine on the PC through my stereos and headphones. The problem I am having is trying to get the microphone in the headset to respond. When I went to my control panel it was telling me that the device was not added but was enabled. I tried running a test to no avail. The ports on the back of my pc don't seem to be responding to the headset either even if the headphones and speakers are.

Looking online I found suggestions about going to my mixer settings but, It turns out I don't have one. When I go to the printer and other hardware in the control panel there is no way to install the volume mixer it keeps telling me to install a pr inter so I am guessing this is not the right spot.

How do I go about installing the volume mixer correctly and how or what is necessary to get a microphone working on this PC?

-Logitech headset (pink and green cord)
-Vista Ultimate OS
-Sb Audigy sound card (not sure which model though)

Re: Headset problems (help please)

When you open the Windows sound settings, on the Record tab does it look like this,

Quote:
Sb Audigy sound card (not sure which model though)
If you can pop out the card and make note of the number on it, should be something like SBxxxx (the xxxx being the model number, in my card's case it is SB0610). Will make it easier knowing if you have a real Audigy (1, 2 or 4) or one of those crappy half-breed Audigy's (SE/LS/DE/Value).
