| Vista Ultimate SP2 x64 : Seven Ultimate x64 | Re: 7.1 speakers-nothing to do vista It depends on your sound card. For example I have an x-plosion cinema 7.1 that upmixes 2ch sources to 5.1/7.1 using DTS, or Dolby Digital Live. Some cards have a 'speaker fill' feature which will utilise all the speakers. Otherwise, no. Your speakers are just speakers and will play whatever you feed them. If its 2ch, it will be 2ch. Again, it's dependent on your sound card. |

| Vista Ultimate x64 | Re: 7.1 speakers-nothing to do vista It looks like your sound does support DTS Connect, which does upconvert 2 channel to 5.1 or better. Unfortunately, your speakers are made for Creative soundcards and upconvert CMSS sound only (no DTS Connect or Dolby Digital Live). DTS Connect is very nice. I use it on my PC and games like Crysis: Warhead sound you're watching a movie. Amazing sound, even better than EAX. Now, if you want to hook your PC up to a home theater receiver that decodes DTS signals....any speaker set will do. |

| Vista x64 Ultimate | Re: 7.1 speakers-nothing to do vista I would get a 7.1 DTS 6.1ES reciever and speakers and connect the digital output to it. I use a Harman Kardon AVR-347 HDMI receiver. It works great. |

| Vista x32 and x64, Ultimate, as well as Server 08, Server 2003, Win xp pro, win 2k pro. | Re: 7.1 speakers-nothing to do vista I use a program called FooBar2000 and a DSP plugin called Chanel Mixer. (Search google for it). It's not a perfect sloution, but it lets you pipe music to all 5.1 chanels. FYI, like someone earlier suggested, i'm using an older Sony reciever and DTS connect over optical. Then i have Yamaha bookshelf's for the front and smaller Sony's for the rear, and a KLH for the front center. With this setup it sounds amazing. Oh, also, I'm using a Bluegears c-media sound card that runs about a hundred bucks on Newegg. |
