Have you installed all the proper drivers for Vista? Soundcard, Input devices and bios updates? From HP's software and driver section alot of laptops show up when you put in DV9000, are there any other letters or numbers to the model number?
Also what version of Vista? Below is what I think should be a proper list of OS for your laptop at the HP site

Select you operating system

Seems to be severel patches there for webcam related stuff. Hope something there helps you.

Have you gone into the device manager and verified that you have no devices missing drivers?

If so it may be that hp's OEM soundcard for your laptop may be a bit different than the retail ones and you migh need to use hp's driver for it instead.

You didnt mention if you were x86 or x64 so ill give you the link to the driver root for your model laptop.

Select your operating system

Uninstall your current sound driver and then install one of the hp ones and see if that fixes it for you. :)
