I know that when you plug the jack into the computer it normally picks up you have plugged in a device , and that you select the mic or the speakers ... but this aint happening ...is there anyone out there that can give me any help or suggestions with this please.... thanks in advance |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: realtek audio jack mixup Hello flukezoid and welcome to the Vista Forums ![]() Could you provide some further information on the actual hardware involved, is this a desktop or laptop is it a "major Brand" or "hand built" Quite often with home builds the actual physical connections are not made or the bios settings can be incorrect you may want to check the bios first to see that the correct options are set anyway as many systems have alternatives |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: realtek audio jack mixup Hi flukezoid, First things to check... There are two types of audio in common use AC97 & HDA (high definition audio) Check to see what type of audio your motherboard supports - It may be one or other or both. Check what connections are on the front panel - more difficult to define but may be in specs from pc or case manufacturer. one way to check this is the physical connections if they have a 10 pin block it's HDA multiple connectors it's usually AC97 but not always make sure that the two above match and the drivers in windows are for the correct type also. also check any Bios options to enable jack sensing after these initial checks I would also open the case and with the help of the motherboard manual ensure that all connections are made It's a fair bit to check but hopefully it will be a simple connection issue ... |

| Windows 7 RC x64 Vista HP x86 | Re: realtek audio jack mixup Hi, Don't worry about the name I answer to both, and a few more which aren't printable on this forum ![]() do you get any output at all? from the rear sockets or the front or is the output totally not working? From the sound of it (sorry ), that is the correct realtek panel, it may be worth re-installing the driver from the realtek site (downloads are very slow ) or if you've already downloaded the driver, you could try completely un-installing the driver, reboot and then re-install.This is a long winded process unfortunately these audio chips are great when they work but are often slow to solve problems on |

| Vista Home Premium 32-bit & Vista Ultimate 64-bit both Service Pack 2 W7 Pro RTM 7600 32 & 64 | Re: realtek audio jack mixup Hi flukezoid, What is the make and model of the motherboard? The problem might be nothing more serious than incorrect wiring to the audio front panel header. Here is the relevant page from my motherboard manual. Although it is probably not the same motherboard as your friend's (see my specs), the header layout and pin configuration is standard. Check the connections according to this diagram. The upper pin layout is for an AC'97 front panel, whereas the bottom pin layout is for a HD front panel. |

Restart the computer Vista will automatically reload the drivers without the software. The sound should now work. Should the drivers not be automatically loaded go to Control Panel, Classic View, Add Hardware accept the UAC promt, press next, and press next the Hardware should now be found and Drivers installed I hope this helps Pooch |
