How to Unmute my LINE-IN? (need a regedit Professional)

I'm trying to get my Line-in to play through my desktops speakers!
They are currently muted and my speaker properties currently don't have an un-mute option (common Vista bug...was so easy on XP).

I plugged a stereo jack from my xbox360 into the back of my new desktop with windows VISTA.
Windows vista is able to detect sound coming in, but does not play it through my speakers.

So far ive:
-tested the stereo jack in my laptop, with windows XP and it worked perfectly.
-doulbed checked to make sure everything is unmuted.
-used windows vista sound recorder to record input sound...i was able to play it after.

This is what my speaker properties SHOULD look like:

Here is a picture of my audio settings:

Here's a picture on everything about my sound card/ driver:

Here's a picture on all my system information:

**Side note: i use onboard sound so maybe a new motherboard driver would work?
-which one would i use from this list:Alienware : The Ultimate Gaming Machineā„¢
(using the information from my system information...im not familiar with motherboard drivers)

The current solution for people with the same problem is
Usually done like this:
1. Right click on volume icon in system tray
2. Select "Sounds"
3. Select "Playback" tab
4. Double Click on "Speakers"
5. Select "Levels"
6. Click the "Input Monitor" button to un-mute it.
7. Adjust volume on input device and on speakers.

Unfortuantivley in my case i have no "Input Monitor button"!

I then found this:

"I HAVE A SIGMA AUDIO TEL AND WIN VISTA HOME BASIC..
AND THE "EnableInputMonitor entry" WASN'T THERE SO YOU MUST CREATE IT LIKE THIS:
I have a sigma audio tel and win vista home basic....and the "EnableInputMonitor" entry wasnt there
so i had to create it using these steps:
1) Open regedit (Start->Run, type regedit)
2) Navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SYSTEM\
ControlSet001\
Control\
Class\
{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\
0000\
Settings\
filter\
SpeakerHp\

3) Create a new Binary Value
4) Give it the name EnableInputMonitor
5) Set it's value to 01
6) Restart your machine
7) Open your Playback Devices (right click on volume control icon in system tray, select Playback Devices)
8) Open the Speakers/Headphones
9) Go to the levels tab
10) Unmute the input monitor"

I followed the path listed in step 2 but when i opened "0000" there was no settings...
A picture of my regedit at "0000":

I tried just putting a "EnableInputMonitor" into the 0000 but nothing changed.

No clue if this will help but i found this in the registry aswell:

Ive been at this for over 15 hours (seriously...sad i know), help!!

Thanks =)

Re: How to Unmute my LINE-IN? (need a regedit Professional)

Hi Pyro214,

Not sure if this would help, but it's worth a try. On the Speaker Properties page on the Enhancements tab, click to put a tick in the checkbox next to Loudness Equalization. I have to do that on my system in order to be able to hear the system sounds (.wav files) as, although they are there, they are extremely quiet otherwise. This format is the default for line-in and would possibly explain the problem. Sound Recorder can record in other formats (e.g. .wma) which aren't affected by this, and therefore appear to work normally.

If "line in" is not shown in properties, downloading a new motherboard should do the trick

use Google, type "download motherboard driver" and then the name/ make of your computer

if you bought your computer from dell, alienware etc... you can go to there site and they will have a selection of motherboards for you to download from.

Does that have to do with bios? Because that says I have to make a disk or something...
