Vista SP1 32bit X-fi sound/video playback skipping/cracking

Hi all, I recently switched to a X-Fi Elite Pro, with a Nvidia Video Card.

Windows Vista SP1 (32bit)
Intel Pentium D 1.8 Ghz
2gb RAM
XFX GeForce 8600 GT 512mb running
Creative X-Fi Elite Pro

(it's been a while since I've needed this kind of support so let me know if more info is needed)

Anyways, from the moment Vista plays the logon sound there is static crackling and chirping noises whenever there is audio playing at the same time as any kind of visual change on the screen (not every screen update). For example videos on websites that play them as plugins are especially static-y. However, playing a fullscreen game (i.e. World of Warcraft) does not produce the static.

Interestingly, I have now tried two different video cards. The Nvidia and now a ATI Radeon, both have the same identical problem. I first thought that it might just be a Nvidia Issue but this is not the case

I have checked for IRQ conflicts and none exist that I can find. I have updated Windows as much as I think I can. I've tried changing Creative drivers as well.

Any advice is appreciated.

Ok, I have been fighting this problem a month now. Does anybody think that they may have a grounding issue in there audio cards. The more and more I search around it keeps seeming like when your messing with a car stereo with a grounding issue. Im lost and if anybody can help it would be appreciated. Thanks

did you install the drivers from the cd, or from the creative website?

If i remember correctly, the drivers included on the cd with the elite pro are xp only, the only drivers that properly work for vista are the ones from the website.

EDIT

Jus got the latest drivers myself & they seem like a lot more has been fixed

yeah, it actually came with a vista CD but I have updated it with the new drivers off of the website. Its just funny, I can play a game and not have any problems at all. When I contact creative, they are lost because it should be the other way around. I have found other people with the same problem with no solutions

if its not happening ing games at all, try disabling all the options in the audio control panel & console launcher application. Disable all the stuff like EQ, cmss3d, svm etc. If that doesnt work, go to control panel>hardware & sound>sound & click your speaker output & choose properties.

Go to the sound blaster tab & check 'disable enhancements'

I have Vista 64 and my xf-i card sounds horrible, it like pops and crackles in LOTRO not sure if its the same for the other games yet, just did a fresh install of Vista64. But I cant stand It it almost seems like when the memory usage starts to increase it starts to get bad. I have alt-tabbed to desktop and changed my sample rate down and up and it will like clear it for about 30 seconds then it starts again.. Wierd I hate it ... Hope someone knows the answer to this one.
