Bad sound from Realtek HD Audio

Hey all,

I bought a new computer with this configuration:
  • INTEL G31/1600Mhz/asrock
  • Intel® Dual-Core E5200-2.53GHZ-2MB-800FSB/45Nm
  • Memory 2 GB Kingston
  • onboard Sound card: Realtek High Definition Audio
I installed Windows Vista Business x32 bit and everything is working properly except the sound card, I can hear music but it sounds so bad.

I have 2 front and 2 rear speakers that worked great with my old computer (also with onboard realtek sound card) so I guess the speakers are not the problem.

Let me tell you exactely how the sound sounds like:
I put Madonna, Fever song (which is a good one..)(MP3) and I bearly hear her voice... when her background vocals start screaming I can hear them bettter the the main vocal. It's like the front speakers and the rare swithced, but they didn't - from the Realtewk Audio Manager when I test the sound everything is ok.. I mean the front sound comes from the front speakers and the rare sound from the rare ones.
I also tried to change the speaker configuration from 5.1 speakers to stereo and to quadraphonic but the sound is the same - only background voices!

Does anyone had this problem before ?
I'm going to a lab to check this problem but before that I decided to write this post here.
I don't know if it Vista problem, Ddriver problem, hardware problem or software problem... any Ideas?

I'm desperate..

Thanks,
Roy.

Re: Bad sound from Realtek HD Audio

Hello Roy.

I have the same onboard audio (or close) and it works great for me. Try opening up the settings, and setting the rear speaker to the front speakers. That might help. Also open up the equalizer, and check the settings. Make sure that it is one of the preset settings. I would also check to make sure it is plugged in correctly. They are all colour coded so it should be easy. Let us know what works.

Re: Bad sound from Realtek HD Audio

Lordbob ,

Thanks for replying.
I tried what you suggested and the front still sounds like rare.
I also tried to use different speakers (I tried my earphones) and still rare sound...

In the audio manager panel there are 3 color lines: blue, green and red. the red is for the mic, the green and blue is for the speakers.
When I press the blue line a window pops up and I can set the type of speaker (rare, front, center, etc). Somehow I cannot set the green one which is the problematic one I mean when I double click it the window that should pop up doesn't... so I cannot set this one.
Can you set it in your panel?

Re: Bad sound from Realtek HD Audio

Hey Guys,

Maybe I diddn't expressed myself well...
I can open the Realtek Audio Manager.
The right side of this window has 3 lines (the back panel) red, green and blue (Techymike, You have 6 lines..).
When I double click the blue line the window in the image pops up (as described in my last post above)

BUT when I double click on the green one (in the image I circle it with red circle) the window doesn't pops up.

My Question is can you double click on every back panel line so this window pops up ?

Roy.

Re: Bad sound from Realtek HD Audio

Well Roy, you cant click on any of them. The highlighted ones merely show where something is plugged in. Nothing else.
