Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Pro DDR2 Crossfire Motherboard sound issues

I have a new system with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P Pro DDR2 Crossfire Motherboard with onbord 5.1 sound. My issue is my surround sound will not work with media player or media centre. Only the rear speakers will work. The surround sound works in games perfectly. The speakers are 5.1 Altec Lansing.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have played with the settings in media player with no avail. I GOTTA HAVE MY SOUND :). Any help would be awsome.

Hi Evolution,

Welcome to the Forum, They seem to be working OK to me. 5.1 sound does not work for music and will only work for a film if it is encoded for it. The only alternative is to use the Speaker Fill option under Playback Devices (Right click on your Speaker Icon)

I hope this helps

Have you tried media player named K-lite? Just do a google search for it. It works much nicer then WMP. It may not fix the audio issue but it is worth a try.

Hey thanks for the tips. I'm not sure what fixed it but i played with the sound settings in Vista and the surround sound starting working. I think it may have had something to do with the HD audio manager not set properly. Anyways all is good.
