No Sound... Tried all week and still nothing.

Hi, I'm new to the forum but I thought I'd get my problem out here to see if someone can help me. It used to work for me before I reformated my computer.

MB= Intel G965 With LPT Port
CPU= Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
using integrated audio
only pci slot used is Video Card (but in a PCIe slot)

Gateway gt5636e
(with ATI Radeon HD 3650, 2 extra HD's)

My problem is that there is no sound. Updated Drivers are installed and working. I can't play a test tone even. However, Driver Software Installation automatically pops up and tries to find a driver for PCI Simple Communications Controller but always fails when I hit automatic. It's almost like vista thinks their is a sound card in the pci slot. I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit. I've tried disabling Integrated Audio in bios and then reinstalling Drivers then enabling the sound again but to no avail. My next option is to wipe the OS, which I don't want to do. Please help.

That's not going to work. The intergrated soundcard needs to be enabled before installing the drivers! If it's disabled, like you said, Vista will think there's no soundcard. Make sure the card is enabled, then install the drivers.

Also what drivers are you attempting to install? Do you have the 64-bit version?
