headset microphone stopped working...need help desperately!!

I bought a headset microphone to use with Skype about a week ago and it was working perfectly. Everytime I plugged it in it asked me something about choosing line in or microphone. I always chose microphone and it worked fine. Last time I used it, the same box popped up and I checked the "do not show this message again" box. Unfortunately after that, the microphone stopped working. The headset part (speakers) still work, but the microphone doesn't. I even exchanged it in the store for a new one and it still isn't working. PLEASE HELP. This is really really important to me!

Hi

Have you checked Control Panel>Sound>Recording and made sure that the mic is selected and is identified as 'working'?
