Realtek Audio Problems

Yesterday afternoon some guy was moving the wires behind my computer to make space to pass by and move out the couch... then my computer shut off

I reconnected my computer and i know everything is correctly plugged in but my audio isn't working... i can't hear a thing.

I am on Vista Home premium
And I'm using Realtek High Definition Audio

When i check the Sound settings everything is High and maxed out nothing is on mute and it shows that my speakers are emitting noise.

I also did the driver update and it is 3/12/2009 6.0.1.5809

I think my computer isn't detecting my jacks or w.e. cause when i plug in my Microphone it doesn't work anymore.

If anyone has any idea of why it is not working or how i can fix it please help.

Some images that might help narrow down problems

Hello TheWire,

See if this may help: :)

In the Connector Settings screenshot above, make sure that box is checked to see the pop-up when something is plugged in again.

Test it with the Speakers device selected as the default playback device.

Double check to make sure that the speaker is plugged into the correct jack on the back of the computer.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

I just reinstalled my OS so now my computer is like new but the sound problem still continues....
I thought the System Restore would work but it did not do anything.

Tells me my speakers are not plugged in when i checked a thousand times and plugged it in every jack avaliable and still no sound.

in one of the screenshots that you posted in your original post, there is a window with enable jack detection
nxm9as.jpg

just get back to that screen and check the box there, when you plug in your speakers now, they should be detected and set them to "front speakers out" also, if you dont want to have jack detection on, you can double click whichever jack your speakers are plugged into, and set it from there.

Just curious thewire did you select "speakers" as Pooch suggested in post #4 ?
If I select "digital" I hear nothing on my computer.

Some of those responses from the link posted by nunyabiz were more helpful than the actual advice given by the website since all they said was to update your drivers.

Well, I tried all the suggestions and I was able to get the audio manager to work. Internet sound come out of my two front speakers but if I want to play and mp3 song or music video, no sound comes out... what does that mean?
