Speaker volume is very low

Hi everyone,

I have only recently upgraded to Vista from XP, I'm very pleased with everything apart from this sound problem, which from what I've read is very common. I was hoping to watch movies on my new widescreen monitor, but the sound is just not loud enough with all settings on max.

The problem I'm having is that my speaker volume is very low, I'm using fairly old speakers, but these speakers were very loud on my old computer running XP.

Anyway I've installed the latest Realtek driver & it has made no difference what so ever. Every setting is set to max volume, does anyone know how I can boost the volume? Or maybe someone else has had this problem & found a solution, I'm wondering if new speakers will make any difference?

The only sure-fire solution I think of so far is installing XP, which would mean losing Vista, as I've not got a disc with it on, the computer came with it loaded already.

Please help! :|

hey there. recently my sound was working fine until i installed this sigmatel driver update from gateway's web site. after installing that it made my sound icon get the damn red x icon and it didnt work. i then read on here about the realtek and tried that but nothing. it seems though that i have to now do the setup again for the original sigmatel driver under the cabs folder (64 bit system) and then it goes back to green and the sound works. i don't restart it though i just click no on that. i don't know if that will help depending on your system i suppose.
