| Vista Home premium | New Guy Howdy all, Well I am new to this site and to Vista. Anyway I have a question for the guru's. A friend of mind recently gave me his old laptop. It came with XP home and everything worked on it. Anyway I bought and installed Vista Home Premium and now I am getting no sound out of the speakers. The device says that it is working fine and I checked for an updated driver to no avail. Any ideas? |

| Vista Home premium | Re: New Guy I checked that in control panel and on the desktop. When you first install Vista is the some kind of set up for sound or is it handled by default. Just a guess as I have no more ideas. |

| Vista Ultimate SP2/Windows 7 Ultimate x64 | Re: New Guy Vista will normally install the appropriate sound drivers for you assuming you let it do that. However often I find that the default playback device is set to something other than the speakers. Have you right-clicked the sound icon by the clock, gone to Playback Devices and made sure that speakers are the default? Or, you may have to go to the sound card makers website to get the latest software and drivers. If it's a built in sound in the motherboard arrangement then go to the M/B makers website. In the Device Manager are there any question marked devices? |

| Windows 7 RTM 64-bit | Re: New Guy 1: Did you try connecting headphone and try playing a song? 2: Check in system BIOS whether the Integrated Audio port is enabled. 3: Click Start and in the Start Search box, type mmsys.cpl and press ENTER. Then in the sound tab, check which is the default device. Right click on the default device and Select Speakers and make them Default. Hope that helps, Dinesh. |
