USB Headset Settings (Problem!)

Hi all,

I have purchased the Microsoft LifeChat LX-3000 Headset a few months ago and I always tried to fix this problem, but never got round to it. My OS is Vista Home Premium 64bit.

The problem is whenever I have something already using the sound device for example itunes, windows media player, a game, streaming a video in a web browser etc. If I have these playing through my speakers (monitor speakers) then when I plug in my headset the sound does not divert from the speakers to my headset, but continues playing through the program, unless I close down the program for which I want sound to come out through the headset and open it up again. This also happens the other way round, so if I have my headphones plugged in, if I simply unplug them then I would have to restart the program that is outputting sound for the sound to come out through my speakers.

This makes it annoying when trying to play a game or watch a video and show someone something so you can both watch and hear it together then go back to only you hearing it (you have to restart whatever it is you are doing).

Any and all help is appreciated, many thanks!
