Okay, I'm about to lose it.

I installed the HD Realtek Driver (rebooted) and went to set it as Default, but can't find it. It's definitely installed... see...

So, I went to CP > Sounds > Recording .. and made sure to look for Hidden Devices.. so I could set it as Default.

Not there!

Hi Christina and welcome to Vista Forums

What are the specs of your system? Are you sure that it uses Realtek drivers? Judging from your screenshot, I would say not. It looks as though your audio device is IDT (Integrated Device Technology). You can only obtain these drivers from the motherboard manufacturer.

ChristinaE:

I don't know on the Realtek/IDT question. I think you're looking for Device
Manager, then expand Sound, video and game controllers, right-click the Audio
and choose Properties.

Control Panel > Device Manager.

Edit: CP > Classic View (left pane, top ) > Device Manager

ChristinaE:

Your initial post shows you following this trail, CP > Sounds > Recording,
which takes you to the second screenshot on my PC, too.

CP > Device Manager
----------------------------------------------------------------
Edit: CP > Classic View (left pane, top ) > Device Manager
----------------------------------------------------------------

Which eventually goes to:
