Vista Reducing Volume With No Input

I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 running Vista Home Premium 32 bit.

Three days ago the computer began reducing the volume to zero on the sound mixer. When I raise the volume the slider returns to zero.

Thanks

In sound control panel do you have either room correction, or sound equalization checked?

No they are not checked. Windows Media Player is also acting the same way. I can increase the volume but it slides right back to zero

Ok lets see what device manager says. can you go start>search>device manager> look for your sound device and see if it is installed and working correctly. If it had a yellow traingle on it or if it not there and there are another "unkonwn devices" you need to re-install the driver.

let us know wht you find

Re: Vista Reducing Volume With No Input

Hi,

Mine suddenly gave a loud whistling sound when certain songs are played.

It started when I activated Windows Defender.

I came to this forum to find out how to deactivate the program which I did.

Now my Windows Media Player is playing normally!
