IMing makes music skip

When I am listening to music on my laptop (this has happened with media player and the pandora gadget on the sidebar), if I get an IM (google talk or skype) then the music skips for a couple seconds. This happens for every IM that I get. any ideas?

go to the event viewer (type event viewer in search) and go to the windows logs, application tab. Look for errors (red "X" in left column) that contain either the sound sard or the im client. let us know which and what the event id and source codes are

Let us know if you need help with any of this

i looked through all of the errors and i don't see anything about the sound car, media player, or IM clients. There are some that just say "application error"... could that be it?

If it says application error it will say event id xxxx (like 1000) and source xxx (like 100). in the details it will say which application. you need to fingd the app error for the sound card.

If its not this we should check on your sound driver in device manager.

let us know the event viewer results
