Hi everybody i'm new here:cool: hope you can help me...
there's no (and there was no) audible sound for taskbar notifications (balloons).
E.g-in windows update (i set it only to inform me, not download).
there is a balloon notification but no sound.
sound options are all enable and working
other sounds appear ok, i Can hear them.
Windows - Balloon.wav" correctly associated with System Notification- and sound test is working.
changing between sound schemes also does not help...
any idea how to enable balloon sound ?
(In XP baloon notif. sound is working but not in my vista...)

*Maybe i'ts vista default behavior?

Re: no ballono sound

your answer is much too general -so it is not helpful.
I simply ask:when try to update windows defender via the app. (from the defender it self)- there is notification balloon from the task bar without sound.
do you have the same situation?

Re: no ballono sound

Google it man you should be able to find it.I rarely post a problem here I only ask for advice or help people out.You can google anything and then check out couple other sites. If they all have the same answer bingo problem solved.

Let me chew on some painkillers I got awhile back for my back.I decided to set up my kickboxing equipment the other day.Its been awhile and I was off like an inch with a roundhouse to the body on my heavybag.Instead of all shin I hit with part of the top of my foot oweee  I hate going to the Dr. but looks like it feels like I broke something after icing it down and all.

1st search I did 1st website which is how I usually fix things "k-lite" rox.http://www.mydigitallife.info/2007/08/15/fix-windows-no-system-sound-and-audio-problem/ Sorry I don't feel good

I'm going to take a break for a few till I get my foot checked out I'm getting aggravated way 2 ez.Take it ez people

Re: no ballono sound

i Googled it -but no specific solution.
i do not need k-lite (anyway it's full of crap) since i do not have any .wav problem issue .
anyway Codec Tweak Tool did not fix the problem .....

p.s- hope you'll feel better :)

If like me you are using Optical Audio and have it set on something like DTS 5.1 then you will not here such short sounds as it takes a fraction for the info to register and activate, by wich time the sound has finished and no sound will be heard, if so you can test that the sound is working by downgrading quality to stereo, if still no such sounds then maybe the problem is deeper

I would also check you windows sound theme settings and be sure its set to default

Thx it is feeling much better today.Sorry I didn't mean to get nasty with you :o Did you try these 3 steps it sounded like it would fix your problem.

Download and install K-Lite Codec Pack version 3.3.0 Full from here or here, or choose other versions from more mirrors here. You can deselect most components that you don’t need, except Codec Tweak Tool under the Tools section.
After installed, click on Start button, then go to All Programs -> K-Lite Codec Pack -> Configuration -> Codec Tweak Tool.
In the Codec Tweak Tool window, tick the check box next to [Registry] Fix non-working system sound.

Click on Next button, and your Windows no sound problem should be fixed, and working as usual.

Let me know if that works or not I'll look around some more.

Ahh ok sorry again man I was feeling terrible I didn't mean to be a jerk :o 9/10 times k-lite does fix Windows sounds and WMP.I'll look around some for you and post a couple fixes I hope they work :) TBH I have a notoriously bad temper but I usually have a good handle on it.

Wait you already fixed it ? Sorry I'm very easily sidetracked and high strung  Let me know I'll check back here later.I hope you got it fixed gj :D Thx again for being understanding and patient with me.
