| Vista Home Premium 32bit | no balloon sound Hi everybody i'm new here hope you can help me...there's no (and there was no) audible sound for taskbar notifications (balloons). E.g-in windows update (i set it only to inform me, not download). there is a balloon notification but no sound. sound options are all enable and working other sounds appear ok, i Can hear them. Windows - Balloon.wav" correctly associated with System Notification- and sound test is working. changing between sound schemes also does not help... any idea how to enable balloon sound ? (In XP baloon notif. sound is working but not in my vista...) *Maybe i'ts vista default behavior? |

| Vista Home Premium 32bit | Re: no ballono sound your answer is much too general -so it is not helpful. I simply ask:when try to update windows defender via the app. (from the defender it self)- there is notification balloon from the task bar without sound. do you have the same situation? |

| vista ultamate 64bit | Re: no balloon sound If like me you are using Optical Audio and have it set on something like DTS 5.1 then you will not here such short sounds as it takes a fraction for the info to register and activate, by wich time the sound has finished and no sound will be heard, if so you can test that the sound is working by downgrading quality to stereo, if still no such sounds then maybe the problem is deeper I would also check you windows sound theme settings and be sure its set to default |

| Vista Home Premium 64bit | Re: no balloon sound Thx it is feeling much better today.Sorry I didn't mean to get nasty with you Did you try these 3 steps it sounded like it would fix your problem.Download and install K-Lite Codec Pack version 3.3.0 Full from here or here, or choose other versions from more mirrors here. You can deselect most components that you don’t need, except Codec Tweak Tool under the Tools section. After installed, click on Start button, then go to All Programs -> K-Lite Codec Pack -> Configuration -> Codec Tweak Tool. In the Codec Tweak Tool window, tick the check box next to [Registry] Fix non-working system sound. Click on Next button, and your Windows no sound problem should be fixed, and working as usual. Let me know if that works or not I'll look around some more. |
