CDs do not burn in nero on windows media

Hi i have a very strange problem with Burning CDs, I have always been able to burn CDs without a problem. It had been a while but a few days ago i had tried to burn a CD with windows media player using MP3s from my hard drive.

first the error with windows media player is that it begins to write all songs without analysing which it used to do, the burn rate literally increases every second however before ti used to take some time and stay a couple of seconds in each percentage. in the end all songs will fail to burn as soon as one or two fail all the others do at once. the red x error only says check the drive is connected and to check the cd is not damaged. non of theres erros could be so as i have used two different batches of CDs and the drive reads CDs and can clone CDs with nero still.

when trying to burn with nero the only error which comes up states that the burn failed. the log is very lengthy however. if i go to device manager the drivers are upto date. this is a very strange problem as nero is able to copy original CDs but however no files from hard drive can be written to a CD as an audio CD for some reason.

Please help, this problem is becoming very frustrating!!

Make sure the CD's are 'writable.'

hi Sean the CDs are blank, brand new, have even tried two different batches!!

any more suggestions!?

Well what is the name of the CD. Being blank doesn't necessarily mean you can "write" information on them. They should be like CD-RW. Let me know what your's say on them.

Alright well the CD itself isn't the problem. I know you say you used to use Nero but I would suggest using iTunes to see if burning is working in general. Let me know if this is an option for you.

Try lowering the burning speed inside iTunes. This window should pop up when you press the "burn disc" button (latest version of iTunes).

Put it to 4x and try to burn.

Having very similar issues the past few days. Running Vista Ultimate. Never had a problem burning any brand of CDs via Nero 9 or Windows Media Player. I now get a message to insert writeable media. I've tried my usual TDK's and sometimes they work. However, I bought Sony CD-R and HP CD-R's this weekend and both brands will not read.

Strangely, I can burn both brands using Windows own burning software, using the Mastered selection ..not thru Windows Media Player though.

I have an old Plextor PX712-A that has been flawless until now. Not sure where the problem lies.

My Computer

If you insert a CD and wait until the Windows AutoPlay options come up, I use "Burn files to disc Using Windows" option. Then I wait a few seconds and the next screen comes up and says "Burn a Disc. Prepare this blank disc" and asks for a disc title. There's an arrow drop down on the left bottom of the screen and there are 2 choices: Live File System and Mastered. I select Mastered. You can read the differences between the 2 choices but Mastered is what's recommended for play in most players. And best of all, it's what works for me at the moment! I am starting to believe my Plextor 712A is at fault too, and maybe it's not all Nero's fault. I just downloaded Nero 9 demo and I have the same message when inserting any brand of CD-Rs: Insert writeable disc.

The reason I am also faulting Nero 8 and 9 is today I tried burning a CD using my external HP 1040e DVDRW burner that I have and I got the same error message, to insert a writeable disc.

Again, no message burning on either using Windows, not the Windows Media Player though.

Have I confused you too?

By any chance do you have problems sometimes where the DVD Drive doesn't even show up on your computer and/or it doesn't open when you press eject/open?

no such problem there, i can boot from the CD drive, and run anything from it, normal audio CDs work on it too

Maybe the problem has something to do with your driver...

Go into your Device Manager. And check to see if there is a Yellow "!" next to you DVD Driver... (Picture showing how)

DeviceManager.jpg

>Right-Click on Computer
>Click on Properties
>Click on Device Manager in the top-left
>Click continue on the screen that pops up
>In Device Manager find the DVD Driver Spot and expand it...

Let me know what you find out
