Problem with logitech microphone

alright so i decided i want to get into the music buisness. and start of with voice recordings ., so i bought a logitech microphone from walmart .this microphone is a desktop mic and it says it is compatible with windows. so i plugged it in to the pink microphone jack and ran a test threw the windows voice speech thing and it has he thing that says peter like to dictate his computer or something. well it shows my voice actually working. but thats the only program that shows it works. i tried the built in (sound recorder) and when i record it saves the file to a wma file through windows but when i open it it doesnt work? when i right click the volume icon and go to recoridng decivce it says mircophone workin gproperyl with a green check through it but it also has an icon that says

Line in high definition audio device
(not plugged in) is this why my mic is not working?

i do have a plug in the back of my computer but it didnt work when i tried out the voice test for the microphone. it says for my recording that the high definiton device is not plugged in. im really not a smart guy when it comes to computer. could someone help me and i love you love youin u
