sound problems/speakers/headphones issues?

hi all,

moved my computer - unplugged speakers, plugged back in after move. they don't make sound. tried an alternative set, they don't make sound. headphone jack puts out one channel sound from cd, youtube, etc - not 2 channels tho. at least there is sound and the headphones could be bad.

The first 2 times I booted the computer, after reaching the desktop a big gigabyte screen popped up showing sound related settings. (I have a gigabbyte motherboard) - first time ive ever seen that screen - so i just clicked it shut, before I knew the sound was problematic. cant get that gigabyte screen to come back on tho to see if I need to change settings on it. any idea how to get that gigabyte screen back?

checking the system shows sound in working order; onboard sound, not stand alone soundcard.

thanks,

Msongs

update in problem solving....

tried speakers in the headjack plug on computer front panel, worked fine. plugged them into to rear jack and got sound for a few seconds but have not been able to duplicate again. on mobo plugged in hd plug and realaudio 97 plug alternately, didnt seem to change anything. turns out the headphones only have one channel after all not stereo.

will get a stand alone sound card and see if that works.

installing a seperate sound card - still no sound from

speaker jack on the new sound card. checked everything we can think of, no mute, volumes set ok, sound in headphones jack tho.

unplugged the hd audio clip and realtek clip from mobo, no sound in card. plugged em both in alternately, no sound in card.

can't get sound through speaker jacks from mobo or soundcard either.

well we gonna put in the new HD with win7 tonight and at least we can get sound through the headphones jack for now. darn electronics!
