hi all,
so I've been trying to trouble shoot this for awhile...I've uninstalled and installed drivers, rolled back drivers....For some reason I am not getting any sound from the rear jacks (green to monitor) or from the headphone jack. System is a HPa6303w running vista home, using realtek HD Audio. My 'digital output' is set as my default playback, but when I used an RCA cord to 3.5m plug I still have no sound. I can't configure the speakers cause the system is not seeing them...is there any way to 'activate' the analog playback? Please help!

do you have an speaker plug in the front jack as well.. if so remove the front one and plug the back one.. a sound setting should appear on your screen..

My Computer

Nope...right now I only have the monitor 3.5 audio cable plugged into the back. The problem is that the realtek hd audio manager is not seeing that it's plugged it.

Is your front speaker jack empty? try to plug it in the front.. do you have an external sound card plugged?? try to plug it in different holes perhaps the green one is not for speaker.. lol just assuming..
Or perhaps the cable from your monitor is faulty? Did you checked the drivers.. is the sound card not disable under device manager??

My Computer

yeah I tried plugging it into the different jacks...rear, front, side...also tried a different cable...what's weird is that if I plug something into the blue 'in' realtek recognizes something plugged into it. What else is weird that I have no sound from my headphone jack.
I've updated the drivers about 3 times now, so I don't think it that. The sound card is an internal, I've even gone into the bios and made sure it was enabled. When I go into my device manager it shows under 'Sound, video and game controllers' my 'realtek high definition audio'. So, I am pretty sure it's enabled.
Thanks for your help, I've been going nuts trying figure it out.

You can use the line-in connection on your sound card to connect a portable music player, microphone, or other audio input device to your computer.
However, the line-in connection to your sound card is muted by default. This means that if you plug an audio device into this port, it will not produce any sound on your computer until you enable sound for the line-in connection.

Most sound cards have at least one line-out port to connect speakers and a line-in port to connect an audio input device

To enable sound for the line-in connection

  1. Open Audio Devices and Sound Themes by clicking the Start button

, clicking Control Panel, clicking Hardware and Sound, and then clicking Sound.
  2. Click the Playback tab, click Speakers, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Levels tab, and then, under Line In, click the Mute button

yeah, I'm not trying to use the line in...but the sound card is recognizing that something is plugged in, so I am assuming the sound card is working.
When I open the 'sound' options the playback tab shows 'speakers' as not plugged in, 'realtek digital output' as working, and Realtek HDMI Output as Working...I can't configure the speakers because it's not recognizing that their plugged in.

My Computer

yeah...I'm not getting any sound out of the headphone jack either. When I try to 'test' the speakers it shows 'failed to play tone'. Even when I try to use an RCA cable out of the digital output I still get no sound.

My Computer

Ok try that.
Delete your sound driver on the device manager.. restart your computer. download the driver again.. look for the latest version.. and reinstall it..
