ok.. i've posted a thread before about hooking my laptop to my dvd component to get the full 5.1 surround sound..
i'll just get straight to the point...
ok.. i have a laptop with 4 audio ports. (1 heaphones, 1 mic, 1 line in, and 1 SPDIF)
and my DVD component has 1 TOSLINK optical input port.
my laptop is a CLEVO W860CU
(click this for specs)
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/products/prodinfo_2.asp?productid=235
i've already bought a TOSLINK optical line and a converter plug for the 3.5mm.
so i came home today and i tried setting it up... but it still doesn't work..
i've tried putting it in all four of the ports, one by one.. nothing..
i read that i was supposed to get the red light.. none..
i've also read that i need to configure with the realtek audio manager..
i've looked at every option, but couldn't get anything with SPDIF options..
what more do i have to do.... please.. any help??
i really don't want to get a new soundcard.. but if really that is the only option :(
thanks a lot in advance...
have a great week.

My Computer

there is no light whatsoever... i really don't know what to do...
i'm running vista ultimate. 32bit.
i am currently getting 2.1 at most..
and this is by connecting my laptop HDMI (out) to TV (in)
and TV analog red/white (out) to DVD component red/white (in).
in the windows sound options, i have to put the default to Realtek Digital output.
that's the only way the sound will come 2.1.
the weird thing is i saw on some other posts that there are separate parts such as HDMI, REALTEK DIGITAL OUTPUT, SPEAKERS, etc...
but i only get 2.... speakers and the digital output.
and also in the realtek configuration, the digital output doesn't have any special options to turn on/off.. only sound effects and sound format...
i am thinking that windows or the computer BIOS? is thinking the SPDIF is the HDMI output, which also makes sense....
is there any way to fix this??? i would like to use my SPDIF optical output for the sound... i have a crappy DVD component but good sound, so i just need my laptop to start spitting out the red light to connect straight to the component...
this is really frustrating....
AARRRGGG:mad: please.. some advice?
