Hello friends;
i really really need your help in this one.. i just bought LOGITECH x-530 5.1 Speaker system.
when i go to "Realtek HD Audio manager" and choose "5.1 speaker" the "rear pair" is grayed out!
Here is a picture;

Now i know this;
if i change it to 7.1. then the "rear pair" will appear and i will be able to preform the test and hear sound... B-U-T ---> when i will play movies.. (divx, mkx, bluray.. ect'...) i don't hear the people talking.. it's like the wrong sound configuration information goes to the speakers. it will seem the people talking coms from the sub-woofer.. and again really really dim... .+ the rear speakers will work but very low (even when i put it on full volume) .

any idea how to set up correctly the sound ? so even if i am on 7.1. the sound will go to the speakers as 5.1 and send the right information to each speaker?

Thanks !

I believe this is because in the Realtek HD audio world, the surround speakers are sides, not rears. In a 5.1 config, tick the sides checkbox and plug your black audio cable (rears) into the grey input.

As an alternative to plugging black jack to grey input, you can right click the black input in the "Analog back panel" graphic and "Retask" that input to sides.

i see.. well i did the second method. and it works. the speakers work as "side" speakers.
my question is now. buy doing this. will my speakers now will work as 5.1 ? i mean when i am watching a movie. that has 5.1 sound. will my speakers act like they should? where each sound goes to the right speaker ?

Seems to work for me. If you describe the 5.1 speakers as left and right front, center, sub and left and right "surround", the surrounds can be called either "rears" or "sides" depending on who you ask.

I don't think you want the "swap center/sub woofer output" checkbox ticked.

Also, depending on exactly what your speakers are, I would think twice about ticking "full range" on the fronts and surrounds.

Enable bass management takes low frequency sound sent to the fronts and surrounds and re-routes it to the sub. You would want to do this if the fronts cannot handle low frequency, and your speaker system does not do this already.

For PC speakers, my pick would be to try nothing "full-range" and enable bass management turned off. Play some music or a movie or something and hear the difference...
