I have a compaq CQ60, its 6 months old and when I plug the headphones nothing happens, I have also noticed that the built in microphone doesn't work either. What shall I do?

I plug my headphones and it recognizes them, but the speakers are still on and nothing happens to the headphones, the built in microphone is also listed there but it doesn't record anything... i think this is some sort of malfunction shall, I send it to Compaq to get it fixed?
