Solved Creative Fatal1ty Headset (Jacks, not USB) Microphone not working

First of all, sorry for my english (I am danish).
I'm trying to help my son, as he has troubles with his new headset.

The headset works fine, he can hear everything perfectly, but the microfone doesn't work. I can see, that he is not the first, who has this problem, but now I have read most of the questions/answers and I still haven't found out, what to do to solve it.

The computer is running on a Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

Hope to hear from someone who can help.

Kind regards
A frustrated mother

If my pc is turned off and I connect my headset, everything works right. But if I wanna hear some loud music, or it's anoying me etch, I wanna unplug it, but then my speakers doesn't work and I'll have to restart my pc to get my speakers working. It's the same problem when I have my pc turned on and I wanna connect my headset, it doesn't work.

Can anyone help me by sharing their experience in regards to this?

Hi Jude, welcome to the forums.

Can I ask you to right click the sound icon in the bottom right of your screen and select recording devices, now right click on an empty space anywhere in that box and click on show disabled devices, now click on stereo mix and enable, if that solves the problem then we are good to go, if not, then please check that the microphone is being picked up in that same window by talking into the mic and watching for movement in the microphone bar, if it's green then we are good.

If it doesn't respond then can you check that the microphone is properly connected at the earpiece, it's a very narrow gap that the microphone input needs to fit down, it should fit very neatly in that gap, hope this helps
