Solved No audio (at all). I have read other's solutions, they just don't work..

Hi,

I have tried every possible option to get back my laptop's audio and nothing. I tried the "right-click on the blank spot option", but after I check the option "show disable devices" nothing appears. I had my audio (realtek) working until I updated some files suggested by the Windows Health xxx automatic updates. After that, I had problems with the mic but I still could heard. Trying to fix the problem of the mic I disabled the speakers (that was not a good idea, obviously). I definitively need help with this, I know nothing about computers. any idea?

Could you list some of the things you have done please.
Have you gone to device manager and checked the sound driver file version
Did you enable the speakers again after disabling them
The posts here go back a long way.

Assuming the problem is Software and not hardware - I'd go into the control pannel and remove the driver for the sound system and reboot - and let windows re-install it from the internet.

If that doesn't work, try deleting the driver and installing it from the original CD - it could be that the latest, greatest driver update breaks something (I had that happen with a graphics card once...)

Good Luck!

Thanks for your replies,

Ok, let's see. First, I've tried with the audio device manager, but there are no icons or options where to click at all. It says: "No audio devices are installed". As a consequence, i cannot enable the speakers again.

I'm assuming the problem it's not hardware because it was working properly until the update. Before accepting the update there was a message (that I didn't copy), saying that after the actualization I have to go to setup (?) because the audio devices don't start automatically. I couldn't find any "setup" so I tried disabling speakers, hoping that after re-starting I was going to have the option to enable them again.

I'll try with the second option, although I'm not sure where in control panel find the sound driver.

Thanks again!

I recovered my speakers from the device manager, but the mic is dead. I'm trying to find the folder /system32, nothing for now. Any other idea?

This is the folder that I have:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Realtek\VISTA_8169

there is not option for "audio"; there are three other folders in Realtek\VISTA_8169: ICON, WININBOX, WINVISTA, and two other files: LANSETV AND LANSETV6 (with one associated .dat file each one). There is no an audio folder or file in any of these.

Which Device Manager did you go to?
Go to Start, type Device Manager and press enter.
Look for a Sound Video And Game Controllers.
Click the + to expand and see what is there.

There are two branches: Realtek High Definition Audio and Unimoden Half-Duplex Audio Service. When I click on Realtek it says: "This device is working properly".

Ok, also the Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint have started.

Try downloading the Realtek driver from the link at the top of this page, save it to your desktop.
If I remember with this one you open and run the .exe it will say you already have a driver and asks if you would like it removed tick yes, after it has removed the driver reboot your computer.
When your computer has restarted run the Realtek program again and it will install the new driver.
Reboot your computer again after it has finished.

It's solved. I just updated skype and ran the test for the mic. It told me what to do. The option was somehow switched from Realtek to something else (a mixer) and that's it. Thank you so much for you help Ilikefree, I really appreciate it.
