My laptop HD failed and after repair and OS reinstall the speakers are not functioning propperly.

In the Realtek HD audio manager the center left and right speakers dont play, sub and suround ones play. swapping center and sub does not affect the fault.

Have tried reinstalling the drivers from both the acer and the Realtek site several times but to no avail.

any help would be great thanks

Hello and welcome to the Vista Forums!

For more information on this problem, and why, see here: No surround sound in Vista? Creative tries a little ALchemy - Crave at CNET UK

THE FIX:

You have to trust me on this, it will fix the problem if I have identified it correctly.

Start Orb > Control Panel > Classic View > Sound > Single Click on Speakers (with a green tick) and click Configure > Select 7.1 (trust me) and click Next > Put a check next to all speakers (even ones you do not use - trust me) and click Next > Put a check next to both (trust me) and click Next > Finish.

Single Click on Speakers again and click on Properties > Enhancements tab > Put a check next to Speaker Fill (crucial - trust me) > OK > OK

Now try your sounds again. If I have pushed too fast, or this has not fixed the problem, come back to me.

Richard

P.S. There is NO need to download ALchemy.

Thanks for the reply, unfortunately there is no 7.1 option nor is there a speaker fill in the enhancements tab

Ah! This is very odd. Please do the highest setting you can, ie 2.1, and then see if Speaker Fill is available. I think I see the issue. Since this is a laptop, then maybe the integrated sound card can only support mono or 2.1, and this fix will not work, and neither will your speakers properly. Have they ever worked properly? Hmmm. Do you know what sound card you have?

Nope its 5.1. Have the same laptop.

Go check the sound control, and choose the realtek speakers. Try running the configure, box in the lower left of the sound panel. Make sure the speakers are all clicked and the full-range has the center speakers are clicked.
