Hello, and welcome to the Vista Forums!

Try this (large chunks copied from the Tutorial - thanks Brink! http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106787-notification-area-system-icons.html)
  • Navigate to that registry key
  • In the right pane of Explorer, right click on a empty area and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value.
  • Type HideSCAVolume and press Enter
  • In the right pane, right click on the one you just typed to disable and click on Modify.
  • Type 0 and click on OK. (See screenshots in tutorial if necessary)
  • Restart your computer.
  • Test and report back.
Thanks!

Richard

Thanks for the response. I did as you instructed, when I restarted I have no icon. I went to the regedit and in the right pane I have:
HideSCAVolume REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0). Any suggestions

Thanks
Ed

I went back and did the following steps:
Went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
I right clicked on HideSCAVolume REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0) and clicked delete then yes. I then restarted my computer, still no volume icon. Went back to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
HideSCAVolume REG_DWORD 0x00000000 (0) was gone. Am I doing something wrong?

OK. Try setting the values to 1 as though you want to hide the icon and then restart. Now delete the values as per the Tutorial. Sometimes, for unknown reasons, you need to toggle the values in order for your desired effect to stick.
