No Audio Device Installed- SP2 Uninstalled

Hi:

Helping my Mom troubleshoot her DELL Dimension E520 running Vista Home 32 bit. No audio out of her speakers. I swapped a set of working speakers from my Gateway system and I can hear feedback just as I insert the jack into the green speaker connection. The speaker with the red "X" in the system tray states Volume:0, High Definition Audio Device. Right-click on icon, Open Volume Mixer, and "No Audio Device Installed" appears. Device Manager is clean. I uninstalled the Sigma Tel Audio driver and installed Realtek Audio; I disabled and enabled; I went to the DELL Website for my Model and Serial number and made sure all software was as installed at factory; I uninstalled SP2 and reinstalled it; I uninstalled all audio drivers, rebooted and let Windows install the audio driver. The speaker with the red "X" persists as does the "No Audio Device Installed" warning.

I installed piriform Speccy and included the results. This Forum and a GOOGLE search of this issue returns hundreds and hundreds of suggestions to try. I am out of ideas.

Thank you.

Adam

Hi:

Thank you for reminding me that the Vista serial number was public. I will take a screen capture at 6 AM EST tomorrow (PC is in my office). Device Manager is clean, however: the sound fault is an error message when right-clicking on the speaker icon in the System Tray. The Volume Mixer is missing, and selecting it produces the error message. When I tried running a media device (i.e., Windows Media Player) I get an error message that there is no audio device installed. I will take a screen capture of this, also, and will post in the morning.

Thank you for your input.

Hi:

Attached are three screen captures which show different error messages. Please take a look and hopefully someone can suggest some direction I can take in trying to get audio back on my mom's computer.

Thanks.

Hi,

It looks as though you have the wrong drivers installed?

Are all the drivers listed from "Microsoft" Vista (6.0.6001.1800 Longhort_rtm.08118.1840) or do you have the manufacturers drivers?

Hi:

I used ADD New Hardware in Control Panel to force the Sigmatel driver and now this is what I have in Device Manager, Sound/Audio, driver properties (see attachment).

No. Still with red X and "No Audio Device Installed". I looked at a Gateway system in the next room running Vista Home. The Sigmatel drivers are dated 2/28/2007, version 6.10.5405.0. I installed this via a USB stick on this DELL E520 and although still no sound, I now have a Sigma Tel Audio Control Panel in the system tray, confirming that the audio jack works. See attachments. When I try to Add Hardware after installing the driver, the error message is attached.

Hi,

Please run this file (Belarc) & I'll review the internet explorer file created (which you can save & then send to me in a private message). DONE.

Which version of Speccy did you use?

http://www.piriform.com/blog/2010/10/22/speccy-v106 v1.06

Please try this Intel update tool.

Hi,

Please edit your entry above & remove the file from Belarc file now as it has too many "Valuable serial numbers" in it to remain posted.

Asked "Brink" (Administrator) to delete the file for me & you. Thank you :o

So,

What did the intel update do?

The specs differ from my system across the board: different processor, different memory, different video card, different hard drive, different MOB, 64-bit vs 32-bit, different BIOS, DIMM vs DDR2 memory...what are we looking for specifically?
