Missing enhancements tab in playback devices

Hi there,

I've been searching threads on various forums and have had trouble finding a straight-forward answer on this topic...

I'm running a Dell Inspiron 1545 with Vista 32bit premium.

The default audio is the IDT high def codec and I am up to date in drivers for it.

I've noticed people referring to the enhancements tab in the playback device properties menu on vista. This doesn't display on my system and I'm curious why?

One forum talked about having to do hacks to get it... surely there's a more straight forward way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Hi,

Found this on another forum, look to see if it is applicable?

Here's how I fixed mine with Win-VISTA:

1. Click START
2. Click CONTROL PANEL
3. (Switch to CLASSIC VIEW)

a. Click on SOUND
b. Click on PLAYBACK Tab
c. Click on SPEAKERS/HEADPHONES
d. Click on PROPERTIES
e. Click on CUSTOM Tab
i. Make sure PC SPK MUTE is NOT checked
f. Click on LEVELS Tab
i. Slide PC SPEAKER to 100%
ii. Don’t worry about the SPEAKER slider, it’s controlled by the keyboard buttons
g. Click on ENHANCEMENTS Tab
i. Make sure LOUDNESS EQUALIZATION is checked
h. Click OK
i. Click OK

4. Close CONTROL PANEL

This might guide you to the tab.

Cheers for your reply Lottiemansion, however there's 2 problems with your response.

1. There is no "custom" tab in my playback devices (speakers & headphones) properties sections.
2. In reference to your point (g) ... I don't have an Enhancements tab - that was my original question!

If you have any idea how I can display the enhancements tab with the IDT high def audio codec I would greatly appreciate it.

Alternatively, if there is a better audio codec out there that I could be using for my system I would love to hear it.

Cheers, andoc

Hi again,

I must say that during my search for a response I did notice that most of the referrences to the "Enhancements tab" did talk about Vista 64 bit not 32!

Are you sure that the tab is applicable to the 32 bit system? Other than that the only thing I can suggest is try downloading new drivers or place a support request on the maufacturers website.

Speaking of which, if you need any futher assistance I will need make, model & SP version of your opporating system. Specifically the current driver version etc.

Good luck in your quest to find the lost tab.

Hi andoc,

First, it does apply to 32-bit systems as I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 (see my specs) and it uses a Sigma Tel Hi Definition Audio Codec and I have all the features both of you have been discussing. The question is, is there a different codec available for your system that provides those features.

As a Dell, it comes with a Service Tag number. Please post that in your reply. I'd like to check out your specific system myself on their site to see what's available. It may be possible to upgrade or you may be limited by choices made when the system was purchased or how it was designed if you didn't have it custom-built by Dell - at the moment I'm not sure. Have you made any changes since it was purchased (new operating system or upgraded SP number, replaced or different hardware,...)? If so what were those changes and what do you have now (if hardware, include the manufacturer, make and model)?

Thanks and good luck!

I think this tab is only there depending on whether the driver supports it. It certainly is not a 32/64 bit thing. However, my Dell computer came with such dodgy sound card drivers that the microphone port did not work. I think that all you need is a driver update. Just as Lorien has said above, please can you write out your Service Tag.

Thanks!

Richard
