audio is playing in mono

im getting audio in mono..no stereo..ive narrowed the problem down to the the x64 OS.ive tried the sound card and the firewire card in a different pc with vista x32 and it sounds fine..this is a brand new hard drive, and vista was recently installed..i do remember making a lot of changes in vista after having audio problems with the 1rst hard drive, i was hoping the updates would correct those problems..any thoughts..thank you

When you say "Mono" that means the same sound out of both speakers or only one channel (L or R)?

i should have said split mono, sound is coming from L-C-R, but there is no separation in the instruments..as with the same sound card and firewire card in a 32bit vista computer

In that case I need more information on your system. Make, model, motherboard & the operating system. Vista 32/ 64 & SP? etc. etc.

firewire card- 64bit w/ TI chipset

btw..if i set the audio interface setting to surround..i will get the stereo effect..and the separation...but i think i run into problem down the road because i use this system for recording..thanks

the 5.5 drivers dont work with my system,they cause all kinds of static noise. i spoke to echo tech support they recommend the 4.8 also..

as of now the main problem is ,songs not playing in stereo with itunes and VLC media players, just split mono

but songs play in stereo in windows media player, everything sounds fine,,
but WMP does not play all my files (songs),, error msg is, might not have the right codecs or support the format..is there a way to allow all formats into WMP?
but even so..there is something wrong for itunes not to pay right, id like to find out what....

Normally sounds play OK & codec issues are reserved for the video. Itunes installs all the codecs needed for the system. Try updating it?

As for the video stuff (Not on your list of issues) try downloading this codec pack (It contains Audio & video): -

i never had an issue with itunes before..i just installed it today, im sure its up to date. and the split mono problem is happening in VLC media player also..but not WMP

itunes is up to date..
also WMP will not even play store bought cds..just the sample music and and a select few of mp3s i have on my backup drive

Well, it seems as though your system is in a bit of a pickle!

When did this happen?
Can you restore your system to an ealier date when the problem was not apparent?
Have you carried out any virus or malware checks?
Can you do a complete recovery of the system (Back to day one) or do you need to save some files on it (User file back-up)?

Have you updated to the latest SP etc.

Please advise me so I can suggest the best options & to provide the speediest recovery of your system.

my hard drive crashed last week..i am starting from scratch and just re installed vista, just finished with the updates, SP1 & SP2 are installed...

i told you about cds not playing in WMP..which is unusual...wouldnt you agree? and wouldnt this suggest a possible error in vista that needs a repair?

nothing happened..i powered up my pc ..and had no drive.. the drive board was fried..bios could not detect any hard drive..i dont know why
as of now..i am fully updated
so this soulds like a error in vista?

So itried to do a upgrade using the vista disk..but the upgrade was disabled, i needed a more current version of windows..
I dont understand this..is there another way around this?

well probably not nessasary..the WMP is fine as long as i use the realtec drivers and not the echo...
i am able to play cds import and play any song i want..with the using the echo interface WMP was not functining correctly, so ithough files on the pc were corrupt..but doesnt seem so..the echo card and firewire card were tried in a different pc (vista home premium 32 bit)and they worked perfectly..so it looks like theres a conflict with x64 vista..i needed help configuring the audio when i 1rst stated using this pc 2 years ago..ms tech support helped me...it was free then..not now!

As a suggestion, I would not to use any MS drivers for the sound system. They invariably cause issues or in the worst cases don't even work at all.

Where I am at a lost is you appear to be using Realtec drivers when echo ones are available.

Where did the information to use the Realtec ones come from?
If you know which ones they are can you update them?
