need help with cd drive

trying to burn a CD on my windows vista premium. inspiron. cd i,m trying to put in is a regular cd.you can put CD on the tray but when you try to close. it wont close.

Are you saying that the drive will physically not close when pushed? or are you expecting something else to close it?

yes this computer is the flat kind. but i have to say might be my inexperience with computers.i no how to open drive by going to drive e. the cd i,m using is a basic cd. is there a way to close cd rom with out manually pushing it closed. sorry if you cant understand what i,m trying to say.

Well, laptops do not "Power close" thier CD/ DVD drives. They only power open "Eject".

As a basic test, highlight your CD/ DVD drive in windows explorer & right mouse on it & select "Eject" this should "Power open" the drive.

Desktops "Power" open & close.

windows vista premium service pack 1 inspiron537s 64 operation system. i,m trying to burn a cd to use on my xp. but when put CD in drive and try to close cd drive. it wont close. sorry xp is another computer i have.

Well the problem is in the CD drive. Can you see an obstruction in the drive?

Plant or animal could have been inserted, if children are use the computer?
