Vista realtek Sound problems

Cheex

Member
Specs: Vista Premium 32bit
Factory integrated audio is Realtek alc888s
Rear and front panel audio is available.

PC Model is HP A6410LA desktop
--------------------------------------------------
My problem:

I hear a weird fading (laserlike sound) when I plug in speakers or headphones. I can,t hear any normal sound.
The sound begins to come out upon the whole startup process.

It was working fine and one day i added a hardrive to the machine just to extract some data I needed. I removed the harddrive and booted up like normal, and sound was not working.

*When I open the master volume i can see the sound waves but cant hear them*

Ive already:
-Uninstalled drivers and reinstalled from realtek website
-Check in BIOS to make sure integrated audio was enabled
-I tried updating the drivers
-Also uninstalled and rebooted allowing the system to automatically detect and it installs properly, however I can SEE the wave sounds but cant hear it.
-Also already Re-imaged my machine to factory settings using the HP recovery utility and still same thing.
-I reseated the front panel audio cable , even left it unplugged to test the rear panel but rear panel makes the same weird laser fading sound.

Please help..its been about a month and Ive run out of Ideas.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Lets see if this will help

Click Start...
Control panel...
Click classic View...
Click sounds...
Then make sure everything is turned on that you need and you might want to turn the start up sounds off and see if the noises go away..

Thanks for the response:

I see the the sound properties and reads:

Realtek Digital Output
realtek highdefinition audio
Functioning

When I go to the properties for that device and test the sound...it goes through as if it plays the sound but cant hear anything.

Was it doing this before you did the factory restore, and how did you do the factory restore lets make sure that you did it correct. If it did it before you did the restore and does it after it might be the speakers them selves. I think on the back of your system the sound should be plugged into the green slot, Did the speakers ever work OK for you and when did you first notice the problem and do you remember what you were doing the first time this happened...

It was working fine and one day i added a hardrive to the machine just to extract some data I needed. I removed the harddrive and booted up like normal, and sound was not working.

So yes it was working fine before the reimage. I used the Hp recovery utility to restore everything to factory settings.

Yes its plugged into the grren port. The way i use it is I use a headphone cable that goes out from my pc and into my home stereo. So all the pc sound comes out of my stereo speakers.

I also tried only using my monitor speakers which are integrated but cant hear anything either.

Where do i go to disable the startup sounds???

Thanks

Hello so it was working until you loaded a lot of files to the external hard drive, lets start there. Hook your external back into your usb port and see if your sound works and then let me know.

@americancritic:

It was an internal drive, I needed to get 2 excel documents and that was it. Once I retrieved the 2 files, I shut the machine down and removed the second drive I added temporarily. Booted back up and sound not working. :(

Hello

I am wondering do you know how to do a sfc scan if not I am giving you the info just in case. This is what you need to do.

1. Click Start...
2. In the search box type CMD.exe...
3. When the pop up come on go to the top and RIGHT Click the cmd.exe and run it as administrator...
4. When the command box appears type this sfc /scannow,,,notice there is a space between the sfc and the forward slash. Let the computer run and don't click your mouse it works better if you leave it alone.

When the scan is done if it comes back with any error's then run it 3 more times as it repairs more each time you do the sfc /scannow. This is pretty easy and here is the tutorial...

http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/66978-system-files-sfc-command.html

Please keep us informed if this works or not, plus is there are any error's in the system that was not known then it will fix them...

Good Luck

sounds to me that the "digital output" maybe selected instead of the "speakers", just a thought :-) also, have you tried a different jack just incase it's the jack at fault?

@Mr Needs:

yes Tried the rear panel ports and same thing. Right now I only have the MOnitor plugged in for sound. The integrated speakers in the monitor. The audio cable that goes from te monitor to PC, Instead of plugging t to my pc I plug it to my phone and sound comes out OK. Something is up inside the pc. Still not sure if its software or hardware.

There's nothing wrong with your setup in regards to software, your hardware is at fault, have you enabled jack detection? I know it sounds silly but you can select what jack outputs which speakers (the lazer sounds are your mouse movements believe it or not, I used to get them on my creative fatal1ty), when you are on the Realtek HD Audio Manager, when you plug in a jack, it should come up with this dialog box:
headphone.jpg
If this box doesn't appear, just double click the jack on the right and it should show up the same box, make sure it's selected with the appropriate hardware, in my case its a set of headphones, yours might be front speakers. hope this sheds some light on the subject.

There's no jack plugged in on that screenshot, maybe there is a fault with that jack after all, when it's plugged in, the jack won't be opaque like they are now, you won't be able to open the dialog up until there's a jack plugged in either. If you can get one of the jacks to register an input then just double click the jack that isn't opaque and it will bring up the dialog box, where it says front panel, it should be the green one if you plug it into that one. Hope this helps.

So the digital is ok ? but it also has to have the green port activated? Would both ports be bad? the front green and rear green? It does recognize it when i plug something in the other ports it detects it. But doesnt do it on the green.

Heres what I have now:

You can use a different port if you wish, green is just a guide, they all support 2 channel stereo so if you can, plug it into a port that detects it then alter the jack in the dialog to front speakers out or headphones :-)
